Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties manufactures a wide range of high purity magnesia products, including: ultra stable magnesium hydroxide slurries, industrial/flame retardant grade magnesium hydroxide powders, reactive grade magnesium oxide, industrial/agricultural grade magnesium oxide, and dead burned refractory grade magnesium oxide.

Magnesium Hydroxide Slurry Products
FloMag H/HUS is manufactured using a patented process that yields a stabilized, concentrated, aqueous suspension with excellent flow and storage properties. FloMag H/HUS can be transported by either tanker truck or rail tank cars for transport cost optimization. Applications include: water & wastewater treatment (alkalinity addition, pH adjustment, metals precipitation), and chemical compounding (manufacture of magnesium salts). Our staff of highly trained chemists and chemical engineers can assist the customer in laboratory titrations and/or the design of storage and product application equipment.
CellGuard OP is a concentrated, stabilized, aqueous suspension of high purity magnesium hydroxide with excellent flow and storage properties. CellGuard OP contains lower levels of transition metals (Fe, Mn, Cu) as compared to magnesium hydroxide slurries produced from naturally-occurring magnesia. CellGuard OP can be used as a cellulose protector in oxygen delignification, as an alkali source in mechanical pulp peroxide bleaching, and as a partial substitute for caustic soda in EOP and EP bleaching.
Magnesium Hydroxide Powder Products
MagShield® S / MagShield® UF
(uncoated and stearate coated grades)
MagShield is a chemically precipitated grade of magnesium hydroxide powder that is designed for non- halogenated flame retardant applications such as: thermoplastic olefin roofing, plastic lumber, and wire and cable. MagShield is available in standard grade (median particle size of 4.5 microns), ultra fine particle sizing (median size of 1 micron), and stearate coated for improved processing. MagShield can also be processed at higher compounding temperatures than alumina trihydrate in plastics compounding applications.

MagChem MH-10 high purity magnesium hydroxide powder is an ultra fine white powder that is suitable for use in the production of magnesium salts, ceramics, lubricating oils, and other specialty chemical applications. MagChem MH-10 is also available with a ‘low calcium’ specification (MagChem MH-10 LC and ULC) for use in the manufacture of specialty fuel additives where low calcium levels are desirable, and as an ultra fine product with a median particle size of 1 micron (MagChem MH-10 UF).
CellGuard MH is a fine, white high purity magnesium hydroxide powder produced from magnesium rich brine that contains lower levels of transition metals (Fe, Mn, Cu) than other naturally occurring magnesite materials. CellGuard MH can be used as a cellulose protector in oxygen delignification, as an alkali source in mechanical pulp peroxide bleaching and as a partial substitute for caustic soda in EOP and EP bleaching.
FloMag MHP is a fine, white magnesium hydroxide powder product that is recommended for pH adjustment, alkalinity addition, acid neutralization, heavy metal precipitation, and the stabilization of heavy metals in sludge. FloMag MHP can be added directly to the water or sludge as a powder or can be converted to slurry.
FloMag PWT-MHP is a fine, white magnesium hydroxide powder that is NSF® Certified to conform to the requirements of NSF Standard 60 for Drinking Water Chemicals – Health Effects under the categories of pH adjustment and coagulation & flocculation.
Magnesium Oxide Products
MagChem (30, 35, 40 & 50) is a lightly burned, high purity technical grade magnesium oxide that is a fine, white powder (99% passing a 325 screen) with a high reactivity index and a low bulk density. MagChem is well suited for many chemical reactions requiring a moderate surface area and fine particle size, and is used in a variety of applications such as: manufacture of magnesium salts, construction products, fuel additives, oil drilling chemicals, sugar processing, sulfur dioxide scrubbing, and water desilication.
MagChem 10 grades are high purity technical grades of magnesium oxide that have a relatively high bulk density and low reactivity, and are available as both milled and sized products. Milled MagChem 10 grades are recommended for the production of magnesium salts (particularly in reaction with strong acids), and are also used in the manufacture of fiberglass, abrasives, construction, leather tanning, ceramics, and other industrial applications.
MagChem 10 CR is a high purity, technical grade of magnesium oxide that is carefully controlled during the calcination and milling steps to provide a consistent reactivity. This product is specifically designed for applications where controlled reactivity is required, and is recommended for applications involving phosphate reactions such as dental investments, ceiling or wall tiles, and quick setting cement. MagChem 10CR is also used in the chrome leather tanning process.
MagChem 20SC is a medium reactive, micronized, magnesium oxide powder formulated for applications requiring maximum consistency in chemical properties, physical properties, and reactivity. MagChem 20SC is used in the manufacture of grain oriented steel for high performance electrical transformers, specialty ceramics, and coatings.
MagChem 200 AD is a high purity, highly reactive micronized magnesium oxide powder that is used as a thickener in sheet molding and bulk molding compounds, and as a curing agent in neoprene/phenolic adhesives.
Manufactured to precise specifications in size, surface area, porosity and dispersion characteristics, Elastomag magnesium oxide products eliminate unnecessary cycle changes, reduce stock losses, and help you maintain control over product consistency.
MagChem P-98 products are high purity magnesium oxide materials that are burned in a high temperature shaft kiln to impart high density and low reactivity properties. These products are well suited in the manufacture of magnesia carbon refractory bricks, monolithic gunning refractories, specialty refractory applications (precast shapes and castables), and miscellaneous ceramics.
FloMag HP (HP-ER) are reactive grades of high purity magnesium oxide powder designed for use in potable water treatment applications. Both FloMag HP and FloMag HP-ER are NSF® Certified to conform to the requirements of NSF Standard 60 for Drinking Water Chemicals – Health Effects under the categories of pH adjustment and coagulation & flocculation.
FloMag PWT granular magnesium oxide is designed for use in filter media applications and is NSF® Certified to conform to the requirements of NSF Standard 60 for Drinking Water Chemicals – Health Effects under the categories of pH adjustment and coagulation & flocculation.
AniMag is a high purity, granular, feed grade magnesium oxide product that provides an excellent source of magnesium for mineral premixes, feed supplements, and high-magnesium trace mineral supplements for feedstock and poultry.
CropMag 58 is a high purity magnesium oxide material designed to provide a ‘time release’ source of magnesium for a wide variety of plant foods, soils and crops. Optimum granular sizing makes CropMag 58 compatible with other sized bulk blend materials, and is also suitable for direct application. CropMag 58 is also a useful source of magnesium in granular manufactured fertilizers.
Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties’ Dolomitic Quick Lime products are mined in Woodville, OH and are sold primarily to the steelmaking industry for use as a fluxing agent, and to increase refractory lining life.
